Services & Programs

At Misty Acres Farm & Sanctuary, our services and programs revolve around providing a safe, therapeutic environment for all who enter the gates.

From our animal sanctuary, rescue and retirement operations for equines to our Therapeutic Horsemanship opportunities and experiences, for humans, we strive to provide an environment that fosters stability, self-exploration, dreaming, being, healing, and self-love.

Animal Sanctuary

Misty Acres Farm and Sanctuary is a safe haven for rescues of all kinds; equine, feline, and canine! Not the mention all of the human rescues who have found peace here. Misty Acres Farm has become home to 6 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 cats, 2 dogs, and 8 chickens! Misty Acres is passionate about creating a new narrative for horses, as many do not spend their life with the same family; one where equine kind are able to live long happy lives filled with love and care.

Therapeutic Horsemanship

Therapeutic Horsemanship incorporates all kinds of therapeutic interaction with equines; from physical therapy and hippotherapy to mental health and leadership training, working with horses in a therapeutic environment can be a powerful tool.

Our Therapeutic Horsemanship Program at Misty Acres

Misty Acres Farm’s Therapeutic Horsemanship Program is structured as a 10-week mentorship program. In this Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) program, a mentor and Equine Specialist partner with our horses to provide a therapeutic environment in which to develop life skills and build stable relationships. Misty Acres Farm’s Program Horses are our partners in this program, allowing us to travel down the path of healing with our participants, together. Our Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) is certified by PATH Intl.

More about PATH Intl.

The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) is a federally-registered 501(c3) nonprofit organization. PATH Intl. facilitates therapeutic equine-related activities, including but not limited to, equine facilitated learning, ground work, stable management and more. More recently, programs offer services in human growth and development to serve wide-ranging audiences for educational purposes such as leadership training, team building, and other human capacity enhancement skills for the workplace and daily use.

Equine Facilitated Learning

Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) is a therapeutic experience built on the success of partnership and building life skills through activities primarily on the ground.

Horses have the ability to support healing. Horses are prey animals, and are constantly aware of their environment. They are very intuitive, and can reflect the brain of a trauma-affected human. Since horses reflect human emotions, working in partnership with them allows us to see our emotions more clearly and learn how to regulate them as we want to regulate the horse's emotions during activities.

Farm Tours

We offer immersive, educational farm tours where guests are able to meet the animals one on one and see the environments they live in on the farm. Guests are able to pet and hold chickens (after a brief safety lesson first), pet and feed the horses treats, and meet the donkeys (possibly getting a famous Cupcake hug!).

Our farm tours are tailored to the group, meaning the focus can be on the types of animals and the various breeds of horses, the care of the animals, or their rescue stories. Each farm tour is a unique and memorable experience filled with one-on-one time with both Julie and the rescues, allowing for questions to be answered and connections to be formed.
